Gears of War 3 is top of the US pre-order charts according to http://www.vgchartz.com/ with over 1,300,000 copies ordered already. This is an exclusive release from Microsoft and will only be available for xbox 360 only from 20th Sepember..
The action kicks off 18 months after the last game where the remaining members of the COG have been forced to retreat and rebuild on the island of Vectes. There has already been a fair bit of speculation surrounding Gears 3 as developers have announced it will be the last title in the series and have promised to provide answers to some of the burning questions left hanging from the first two games by reavealing plenty of back-story.
For the majority of the time you control Marcus Fenix the central character in the series but at various points throughout storyline you will get the chance to try out some of the supporting cast. There is also a chance to play as the enemy Loocusts in ‘Beast mode’ which is an improves on horde mode from Gears 2 by offering some more substatial objectives. More new features include a co-op mode for up to four players and the chance to control an ‘Aliens’ style exo-suit brilliantly named ‘The Silverback’ which comes fully loaded with mounted machine gun and rocket launcher. This instalment also gives you the chance to test some intriguing new weapons notably including the ‘Digger Launcher’ which is used to fire small creatures strapped with explosives through the ground to take oponents by surprise.
