Batman: Arkham City was voted one of the most eagerly anticipated games of 2011 in a recent survey by Digital Spy.
Of course, with the looming shadow of its predecessor, Arkham Asylum, this is unsurprising, but will this weight of expectation mean that it can’t possibly live up to what came before it? Well, early impressions seem to suggest all the right components are in place. The game continues the story with the same characters, but players can expect enhanced graphics and a roster of new villains to enjoy.
Due for release in October 2011 and available on Wii, Xbox, PlayStation and PC, the title takes the oppressive atmosphere of Arkham Asylum that saw Batman trapped inside the titular prison fighting for his life. Now Quincy Sharp, the new mayor of Gotham city, has corned off the slums and placed the prisoners in it allowing a city of gangs to provide the latest threat to the threat to The Dark Knight and his vigil over Gotham City.
The gameplay has been updated to add more of Batman’s gadgets, with other improvements including the overall art direction. The creators at Rocksteady have been keen to let players really feel the physical change between the different villain territories, so when you’re in the jokers turf zone, you can almost feel his evil grin taunting you!
All you die hard catwoman fans will finally be happy to hear that you can now play her in the game, and throughout the game there are chances to use her instead of Batman. She may be missing some of the Caped Crusaders gliding skills, but we have no doubt she’ll level up the game with her feisty feline ways.
Let us know your thoughts on Batman. Do you think the Joker will return?
